Endometriosis

Endometriosis is a common condition in which tissue originating from the lining/inner wall of the uterus grows into parts of the uterus, such as the ovaries, vagina, fallopian tubes, bladder, bowel or rectum. In rare cases, it affects distant organs. It affects 10-17% of women of childbearing age and 35-60% of women with chronic pelvic pain. Symptoms Symptoms of endometriosis vary and some women are asymptomatic. The most common symptoms are:

  • Severe menstrual pain
  • Pain during sexual intercourse
  • Pain in the lower back, pelvis or abdomen
  • Abdominal gas and bloating
  • Depression
  • Chronic fatigue
  • Not wanting to go to the toilet
  • The pain experience of infertility varies among women.
