Abnormal Smear Test
A smear test (also known as a PAP smear) is a screening test to detect cervical cancer at an early stage. Recognizing cervical cancer at an early stage is extremely important for treatment. It increases both the quality of life and the life expectancy of the patient. The purpose of the smear test is to detect cells in the precancerous stage, so that you can get rid of these dangerous cells before cervical cancer develops. The smear test is simple and painless. The test should not be done during menstruation. First, a speculum (examination instrument) is inserted into the vagina so that the cervix (cervix) can be seen. Then a small brush is applied to the cervix to collect cell samples and spread them on glass. The pathologist examines these cells under a microscope to look for abnormal growth. The main goal is not only to detect a possible cancer, but also to catch “precancerous” lesions, which are not cancerous but have the potential to develop into cancer and can be treated.
